Helping our kids learn how to pray is one of the most important gifts we can give them. When children talk to God, they know that He loves them and always listens. Prayer is like talking to your best friend; it helps us feel close to God and reminds us that we’re never alone. If kids start praying when they’re young, it can grow into a strong habit that helps them trust God every day of their lives.

One way to help kids learn to pray is by making it simple and everyday. You can start by praying together as a family before bed or at mealtime. For example, you might say, “Thank you, Jesus, for today. Please help me be kind and strong tomorrow.” Encourage kids to talk to God honestly, just like they talk to a friend. Remind them that there’s no “perfect” way to pray, as God loves us just the way we are. Which I am thankful for!

A practical tip that others have done is to give kids their own prayer journal or a special place where they can write or draw their prayers. You can also read Bible stories about prayer together and ask questions like, “What would you tell Jesus if you could talk to Him?” The more they practice praying, the more they’ll see how much God cares and how prayer can make their hearts happy and brave. Teaching kids to pray is a special way to help them grow in faith and love Jesus.

And remember, Jesus loves children very much. In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Prayer is powerful; it connects us to God and helps us learn how much He cares about us. As the famous preacher Billy Graham once said, “Prayer is the key to unlock the storehouse of God’s blessings.”

When we teach kids to pray, we are showing them how to open that door and feel God’s love every day.
