Reaching the Next Generation: A Call to Serve with CEF Canada
February 26, 2026
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” — Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
There is something holy and hopeful about gatherings where people from many places come with one shared passion: to see lives transformed by the Gospel. This spring, our CEF Canada team had the privilege of standing among that crowd at Manitoba Missionfest, one of the largest mission gatherings in the country. With roughly 150 mission organizations represented and an inspiring evening attendance of some 2,000 people, where the energy was electric. Our booth was not just a table with brochures; it was a place where stories were shared, hearts were stirred, and our mission was spotlighted as we reached the next generation with the life-changing message of Jesus.

Scripture reminds us that children hold a treasured place in God’s heart. Jesus welcomed them, blessed them, and taught that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those with trusting, childlike faith. For us at CEF Canada, this is not simply a slogan; it is our mandate. Every child reached, taught, and mentored with God’s truth matters eternally. When we invest time, resources, and prayer in children, we invest in the future of the Church, our communities, and our nation.

At Manitoba Missionfest, we met pastors, volunteers, parents, students, and mission leaders who all understand that the Gospel is most powerful when it reaches young hearts early. Conversations at our booth ranged from practical questions about after-school clubs to deeper talks about how to disciple children and support families. People asked how they could partner with us, and many left with a renewed sense of calling. These moments remind us that the work we do is both urgent and joyful.

A Season to Mobilize
God is calling workers into the harvest, and there are many opportunities to serve. Art will represent CEF Canada and speak to the student body at the upcoming mission conference at Prairie College in Three Hills, Alberta, this March. He will be promoting the CEF Canada ministry, sharing stories from the field, and looking for people who feel led to serve. Whether you feel called to volunteer for short-term outreach, teach in clubs, assist with training, or support children through prayer and giving, there is a place for you.
Serving with CEF can take on many different roles, such as direct ministry to children, directing a program, working in the office, working in multimedia, and social media outreach, among many others. There are full-time and part-time opportunities, and even for those who might be retired and have a few months a year to serve somewhere, let’s talk. If you feel called to be a part of the great commission, there are areas we could work with for the growth of the gospel and God’s kingdom. When a child hears the Gospel for the first time, a chain of grace begins: hearts are softened, families are touched, and communities can be transformed. Your time, your gifts, and your presence can open the door for that chain to start.

Your Participation Matters
Maybe you’re thinking: I’m not a teacher. I’m new to leading a Bible lesson. Rest assured, many who serve felt the same at first. Know this: God uses ordinary people who are willing. CEF provides clear, age-appropriate materials and training that equip full-time and volunteer staff to share the message of Jesus with confidence and love. Whether you pray, volunteer, or support financially, your involvement can make a difference in a child’s life.
Would you……
Pray: Ask God if He is calling you to serve children in your community or somewhere in the world. Pray for the teams already serving and for the events where we connect with future volunteers.
Visit our office or booth at events like the Prairie College mission conference, or check out our website and connect. Bring your questions, your ideas, and your willingness to serve. Your presence at these events can be the first step toward making a lasting impact on children’s lives locally or around the world.
Train: Take advantage of CEF Canada’s volunteer training. These sessions build skill and confidence for working with kids. Or bring your current skills that could be applied to a particular area.
Begin with small steps, such as attending one of our local Bible clubs or helping lead a session or helping with logistics, as it all helps.
A Community of Hope
The Church is strongest when it raises the next generation to know and follow Jesus. At Manitoba Missionfest, we felt the warmth of a community that believes in that hope. At Prairie College in March, we will continue that momentum. If you sense God nudging you toward children’s ministry, stop by and say hi. Learn how your talents, time, or treasure can help a child meet Christ.
As Matthew 19:14 reminds us, children matter to Jesus — and supporting children’s ministry efforts is vital to us. Let us serve together, bringing colour and truth into the lives of the children around us. If you would like to learn more about serving with CEF Canada at Prairie College or through local programs, please reach out at the event or visit our website for details. Together, we can help a generation find the life only Jesus gives.
