Let me tell you a story: A Journey of Wondering and Obedience. This may not be your story, but perhaps you know someone who is standing at a crossroads, contemplating a ministry opportunity. Maybe it’s you—feeling the nudge in your heart, yet also weighed down by questions and doubts.
There was a person—let’s call him Mike—who loved Jesus and longed to serve Him more intentionally. One day, Mike came across an invitation to partner with CEF (Children’s Evangelism Fellowship). At first, he felt excited, but soon he was overwhelmed. Thoughts flooded his mind: Am I qualified? Do I have what it takes? What if I step out and fail?
Mike was in that place of uncertainty—wondering if he should chase after what seemed like a big calling. Yet, deep inside, he remembered the words of Jesus: “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” (Matthew 17:20)
That verse resonated with him. It reminded him that even the smallest act of faith—when aligned with obedience—can make a huge difference. The key wasn’t in having all the answers or feeling “ready,” it was trusting God enough to step out in faith.
While he still hesitated, Mike reflected on the wise words of leadership expert John Maxwell: “The greatest mistake we make is living our lives in default mode, not as the intentional, focused beings we are meant to be.”
That quote woke him up to the truth: that life, especially our spiritual lives, requires purpose—deliberate steps of obedience to God’s call. Waiting for perfect conditions wasn’t an option; being faithful in the little things was what mattered most.
Mike knew that calling into ministry wasn’t about being perfect or having everything figured out. It was about surrendering, trusting that God equips those He calls. Every great leader in Scripture—Moses, David, even young Samuel—had doubts but responded to God’s call with obedience. Their stories prove that God specializes in using ordinary people for extraordinary purposes.
In his quiet moments of prayer, Mike was learning that the decision to follow God’s lead wasn’t about having clarity—it was about trusting in His sovereignty. It was about taking one small step of faith and believing He would do the rest.
He finally made the choice—though it felt uncomfortable—to embrace the call, knowing that God had plans to prosper him and give him hope (Jeremiah 29:11). His journey showed that stepping into ministry wasn’t about perfection; it was about obedience and faith.
Just like Mike, perhaps you’re standing where he was wondering if now is the right time, if you are enough, if you are truly called. But here’s the truth: God never calls the equipped—He equips the called. And when we respond with simple faith, God does amazing things through us.
So if you find yourself in that space of wondering, know this: your willingness to say “yes” is what truly matters. The world needs your unique gifts, your heart of obedience, and your faith—even if it feels as small as a mustard seed.
Today, perhaps like Mike, you need to decide to trust God in the process. Because, in the end, the greatest adventure in serving Jesus begins with a step—one small act of obedience that paves the way for greater things.
And remember, the Lord has promised in Jeremiah 29:11 that His plans for you are of hope and a future. So respond with courage—because someone’s eternity could depend on your obedience.
This story might not be your exact journey, but it is a reminder—God is always calling, always leading, and always faithful to those willing to follow. The question is: will you?
Be blessed as you follow the leading of the Lord
